Date

Spring 2019

In this project, we aimed to
showcase the company’s
design-centric culture.

My Role

On this project, I led the design for the UX, UI, and visual design treatments. I worked with the conversions dev team, as well as the conversions product manager, and got input from stakeholders.

Problem

In 2016, I was tasked with the objective of re-designing Squarespace’s company pages. The company had just moved into its new NYC HQ offices, and was ready to cast a vision for its expansion. We redesigned the company pages to reflect the growing company and its future.

Process

I started the project by researching company pages across the tech industry, and identifying sections that were successful in marketing each brand’s value to new recruits and prospective employees.

Next, I wireframed each page, gathering feedback from design leadership and company stakeholders, and taking approved wires into high-fidelity mocks. Once that was completed, my team lead and I worked closely with the people team to gather real content and organize a photoshoot across all three offices. The photoshoot was led by the content studio and the photo art director, who helped us gather swipe for what we wanted the images to look like.

Once the assets were developed, we plugged them in and I worked closely with the devs to bring the designs to life on production.

Iterations

We went through wireframing every page and several passes of high fidelity mocks.

Results

  • Identifying what made Squarespace stand apart from competitors in the space, and finding a way to promote the company to new recruits.

  • Designing evergreen pages for a design-centric company.

Learnings

  • The about and careers pages became a vital resource in recruiting. In the first year after these pages launched, the company grew in size from 550 to 800+ employees.

  • The pages also became a reference point for new applicants looking to learn about the company and its trajectory.

About Page

Displaying the Company’s Culture and Values

On this page, we wanted to give the company’s mission, recent press, statistics, company values, and display the company’s culture.

Careers Page

Enticing Prospective Employees

Designing the careers page meant showing life at Squarespace’s 3 offices, and displaying our open positions in a beautiful way. We chose typography, minimal ui and rich imagery to communicate that.

Locations Page

Showcasing Office Space

We wanted to capture the beauty of the Squarespace offices through photography. We went on location to capture the interior design, and which felt like the best representation of the workspace.

Discipline Specific Pages

Designing for Disciplines

We wanted to feature each discipline with its own unique characteristics, which we found is beneficial for new recruits looking to find out more about the organization that they will soon be a part of.
